Polar Vantage V3: A New Update That Makes Your Trends Easier to Understand

Darius Silaghi

The Polar Vantage V3 received the 6.0.18 firmware update at the end of September, bringing several changes that make the watch more convenient and its data easier to understand.

One of the most interesting additions is the ability to view more training and recovery data directly on the watch in graph form.

The update can be installed through the Polar Flow app on your phone or using FlowSync on a computer.

It’s not just about one number — it’s about the trend

The most interesting part of the update is undoubtedly the new graphs.

The Vantage V3 can now display seven-day graphs for metrics including Nightly Recharge status, ANS Charge, Sleep Charge, nighttime heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), breathing rate and sleep duration.

This is useful because when it comes to recovery data, a single morning often doesn’t tell us very much. One poor night can be caused by a late meal, travel, a hard training session or simply an unusual day. Looking at several days of data provides much more context.

The same principle now applies to running performance as well. Running Index can be viewed as a graph showing the latest weekly results in the Weekly Summary view.

Body weight also gets a similar graph showing the latest measurements, while ECG history can now be displayed graphically as well.

In other words, the Vantage V3 is increasingly moving toward not just collecting data, but helping you understand how that data changes over time.

The LIGHT button becomes the Custom button

Another practical change is that the former LIGHT button is now called the Custom button.

By default, it still controls the backlight, but you can now customize what function it activates from the time view and during different sport profiles.

It may sound like a small change, but for anyone who regularly uses their watch during training, it can be genuinely useful. Frequently used functions can be accessed more quickly without having to navigate through menus.

Sport profile settings are now available directly on the watch

Another important improvement is that key sport profile settings can now be changed directly on the Vantage V3.

The Sport Settings menu can be accessed from the main menu, from the pre-training screen, and while a workout is paused.

This makes the watch easier to use during training, particularly for athletes who use several different sport profiles and don’t want to reach for their phone every time they need to make a small adjustment.

The menu system itself has also been updated with new colors and smoother animations, while some existing menu items have been reorganized. Timers, for example, can now also be accessed directly from the pre-training view.

An 80% charging limit

For those thinking about long-term battery health, another interesting addition is the 80% charging limit.

When enabled, the watch stops charging once it reaches 80%. This can be useful if you regularly leave your watch charging overnight or for extended periods and want to avoid keeping the battery at full charge unnecessarily.

The setting can be found under Settings → General settings → Battery.

Smaller, but useful improvements

New background styles have been added to the digital watch faces, giving users a few more options for customizing the appearance of the watch.

Entering body weight has also become quicker. Weight can now be updated directly from the quick settings, accessible by swiping down from the top of the time view. Polar Flow can also be used to set a reminder to update your weight.

Polar has also made improvements to its optical heart-rate measurement algorithm. According to Polar, the update is designed to reduce occasional gaps in heart-rate data during exercise, sleep and everyday use, while also improving accuracy across different skin types.

The update also fixes an issue related to cadence and speed sensors and includes several other smaller optimizations.

The bottom line

The Vantage V3 6.0.18 update isn’t built around one completely new headline feature. Instead, it brings together a series of smaller and medium-sized improvements that make the watch more practical in everyday use.

For us, the most interesting addition is the new graph functionality. One of the biggest advantages of a sports watch isn’t necessarily what it tells you after one individual workout, but what it can help you understand over weeks and months.

One bad night of sleep or a lower-than-usual Running Index doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong. But if a trend starts to emerge, that becomes much more meaningful information.

And that is ultimately what this update does well: less focus on a single number, and more attention to the bigger picture.

The Polar Vantage V3 6.0.18 update is now available for supported watches through the Polar Flow app and FlowSync.
